Fake Bake: a queen’s (or even king’s) best friend when they truly feel like the fairest of them all! *wink* The term might not sound glamorous, but flaunting a new tan is one sure way to immediately feel like royalty. My personal favorite way to instantly feel like a glow queen is by sporting a flawless spray tan!
Fake Bake | Glow Queen
So, what is so great about a spray tan? Well, first and foremost, by using this fake bake method, you are able to get that bronzed goddess look in less than half the time as a tanning bed! Also, ever heard of the saying, “if you can’t tone it, tan it?” Surprisingly, when you are tan, it helps with minor imperfections like cellulite and gives the illusion of a more sculpted body. Most importantly, you are not putting your body at risk to potential harmful factors: premature aging, wrinkles and sunspots, as well as the scariest risk of all, the “Big C” (AKA Cancer).
For this blog post, I am sharing my spray tan tips, from prep to finish, as well as some pro-tips to help ensure the longevity of your soon to be gorgeous glow! Let us begin your bronzed, fake bake journey, shall we?
Just like when you apply your makeup, to get the most long term use out of your spray tan, I recommend prepping your skin first. First, shaving your legs and bikini area before hand gives you a nice, smooth canvas for your soon-to-be tanned body. Once that has been completed, exfoliating everywhere is KEY, people! This helps get rids of any dead skin, layers or dry spots you might have and it leaves your skin feeling like butt-ah. Exfoliating also helps to ensure that your tan doesn’t come out blotchy or streaky. I suggest a sugar scrub, or even a scrub dedicated solely to tanning prep, 24 hours prior to applying your spray tan.
Now that you have completed your spray tan prep, it is time to get your (spray) tan on! If you have spray tan membership at your nearby tanning salon or are planning to use a tanning booth for the first time, choose your desired shade and possible targeted area (example: you can ask for your legs to be sprayed twice if you like your legs a little darker than the rest of your body). Make sure to apply blending lotion to your hands and toes, as well as covering your hair with a hair cap, to avoid looking unnatural. Once completed, keep dry for 6-8 hours, so your spray tan can fully skin in.
Now, if $40-$60 a spray session is a bit too pricey for your fancy, I highly recommended a faux tan favorite called St.Tropez! This stuff is the Ferrari of fake bake, y’all, and you can leave it on for one to three hours, depending how deep of a tan you are trying to achieve! Your tan then continues to develop for up to eight hours. Did I mention this stuff is streak free? Unlike the typical spray tan, you apply this bronzed bad boy with a tan applicator mitt in sweeping motions. This sun in a bottle ranges from $30 to $40, but is worth every penny! The best part is that it can last for months, depending how often it is used. To prolong and maintain your gorgeous glow, moisturize daily!
Ever wonder how your favorite celebrities or fashion icons look bronzed and dewy in all the right places? Well, darling, here is the pro-tip to that J-Lo glow! If you are going out after applying or getting a spray, add some shimmer lotion or highlighter to your collarbones, middle of your shoulders, and down the middle of your legs. You are going to freak when you see how it makes you and your tan pop!
For all my tan-a-holics out there, I hope you found this spray tan insight helpful and inspiring. If you are an avid tanning bed user, like I used to be, I recommend trying a spray tan at least once. Personally, I liked it so much that I quit using the bed altogether! Who knows, your new fake bake might take the cake!
