You might be thinking that a tanning tips article coming out in September is a bit silly. Just because summer’s over, that doesn’t mean you should lose your beautiful, golden tan. How do you get a nice tan when the sun is away? Thankfully, tanning beds are here to keep you looking like the Baywatch star we know you are.
Stay Sun-Kissed All Year With These Tanning Tips
1. Prepare Your Skin Beforehand
Before going to your local tanning salon, make sure to prepare your skin by taking a nice exfoliating shower. Put mild soap on your body sponge and scrub away those dead cells. Then, use unscented lotion or a light moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. This helps keep your skin from looking dry and leathery after tanning.
2. Choose the Right Self-Tanning Products
Speaking of tanning products, it is best to use different self-tanning products for different parts of your body. For example, it is best to use a self-tanning spray for your face and the back parts of your body, then use self-tanning creams or lotions for everywhere else.
3. Use a Bronzer
Use tanning lotion with a bronzer for a more vibrant and golden tan. Bronzers are especially great if you have a fairer complexion. They provide an extra boost of color.
4. Ensure Your Skin is Dry
Before you apply any self-tanning products, you have to make sure your skin is dry. This helps to apply the product evenly.
5. Apply Self-Tanning Products in Sections
It is best to massage the self-tanner cream or lotion in sections or segments. You may start with your arm area, then your legs, then your torso.
Note: Massage the product in a circular motion.
6. Wash Your Hands After Each Application
If you do not want to have orange-colored palms, then you need to wash your hands with soap and water every time you are done applying the self-tanning products to each part of your body.
7. Dilute the Products When Applying Over Your Joints
The skin on your knees, ankles, and elbows tend to absorb the products more in comparison to other parts of the body. So, dilute the self-tanning product by rubbing a damp towel lightly on those parts of your body.
8. Avoid Water After You Tan
Don’t shower immediately after you tan. Let the tan settle on your skin before washing up. Three to four hours should be enough. Use a shower gel designed for tanning for the best results!
9. Stay Hydrated!
Apply moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and your tan looking good. If you want to keep your tan for longer, consider using a tan extender.
