Is waxing at home a good idea? If you want to save money and want to try out new ways to get rid of unnecessary hair on your body, then the answer is a resounding yes! While this process requires patience and guidance, you can easily do this on your own once you get the hang of it. Below is a step-by-step guide for beginners on how to wax at home. Read on.
Waxing at Home: Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners
Step 1: Prepare a Waxing Set
The first step to pull off waxing at home is to prepare your waxing kit. You can buy from your trusted drugstore brands, or you can make your own DIY wax. It’s your call. For beginners, you can always opt for a ready-to-use waxing kit. This makes it easy for you to remove the hair from your skin. You can also use wax strips or not, depending on the kit you have or the wax you made.
Step 2: Check the Hair Length
Before waxing, you need to check the length of the hair you’re planning to wax off. Ideally, the body hair must be between 1/4 and 3/4 inch long for you to be able to wax properly. Remember, you can’t pull out hair if they’re too short or too long. This is one of the most important things to check before waxing any part of your body.
Step 3: Exfoliate
Next is to exfoliate your legs and look for ingrown hairs. Removing the dead layer of skin will give your legs extra glow once you’re done waxing at home. Doing this will also help make waxing way easier, especially if you exfoliate at least twice a week.
Step 4: Wash the Body Part with Warm Water
This step will help you open up the pores of your skin, making your hair removal session less painful. It will make the hair on your legs easier to remove because your skin will be extra soft.
Step 5: Dust Your Skin with Baby Powder
The next thing to do is to dust the area on your legs with cornstarch or baby powder. This will allow the wax to actually stick to the hair and not directly on your skin. Again, this step will help make waxing less painful.
Step 6: Proper Removal
Before applying the wax on your skin, check its temperature first. After all, caring for your skin is still a priority here. Be sure to apply the wax only if your skin can take the temperature, not when the wax is still too hot. You may apply it using a wooden popsicle stick or spatula. Leave the wax or the strip for 10 seconds, then quickly pull it out.
Important Note: Remember to apply the wax in the direction of the hair growth and pull it in the opposite direction as fast as you can.
Step 7: Rinse with Cool Water
After you finish waxing, you can now rinse your legs with cool water. Use cold water instead of warm water to close the pores on your skin and avoid irritation and dirt on the skins surface. Doing this will remove the excess wax left on your skin along with providing some pain relief to the area you just waxed.
Step 8: Moisturize
Aside from soothing your skin with cool water, you also have to moisturize it to prevent irritation. Another benefit of a moisturizer is that it helps with removing redness caused by the waxing. Aloe vera gels always work wonders with soothing irritated skin.
